HEALTH IS ABOVE WEALTH: Consulting a Doctor
Exercise 1. Look at the pictures and say:
1) what made each of these boys consult a doctor;
2) whether the doctors examined their patients carefully;
3) what the doctors prescribed for their patients;
4) how the doctors helped.
Use the following:
- call out a doctor;
- visit a doctor;
- complain of ( a terrible pain in…);
- suffer from (a bad cough) …
- have a high temperature;
- take the temperature;
- have a sore throat;
- It ached to swallow (breathe, chew, move …)
- feel pain in …;
- listen to someone's heart;
- make a diagnosis;
- drink lots of liquids;
- stay in bed;
- have a 'flu;
- infectious disease;
- do a blood test;
- an eye test;
- take an X-ray;
- treat someone for an illness;
- cure a patient;
- prescribe an antibiotic or smth more complex;
- give practical advice;
- prevent an illness;
- have regular meals (exercises …);
- gargle one's mouth;
- not to read in the bed;
- examine someone's eyes;
- extract a bad tooth;
- regular visits to the dentist;
- promise someone full recovery within 5 days.
Exercise 2. Say:
- when you have to visit or call out a doctor;
- why it is necessary to get medical care during one's illness;
- what kind of advice doctors give you to cure you or help to keep you healthy;
- how often you have seen a doctor (or the doctor has visited you) this year and what the reasons were.
Exercise 3. Describe your visit to the doctor.
